How often should I drain and refill my hot tub?

Many hot tubs using a conventional chlorine or bromine care routine need a water change roughly every three to four months. Treat that as a planning guide: your spa manual, treatment system and amount of use determine the right interval. Frequent use or more bathers can shorten it. Record the refill date and watch for water that becomes difficult to balance despite correct treatment and filter care.

Before draining, check the instructions for your model, including whether a plumbing cleaner is needed and how to disconnect power safely. Plan where the water will go and check local disposal requirements. Refill to the specified level, complete the approved start-up procedure and test the water before use. If you are unsure whether the water needs changing, Legacy Spas offers water testing that includes total dissolved solids, alongside sanitizer and water-balance checks.
