Does a hot tub with ozone still need chlorine?

Yes. An ozone system does not remove the need for a chlorine sanitizer in the water. Health Canada describes ozone equipment as a way to reduce organic matter and says it must be used with a chlorine-based sanitizer. Keep testing and follow the directions for the spa, ozone device and approved sanitizer. Clear water or a working ozone indicator does not show that the chlorine level is adequate.

Check compatibility before changing water-care products. Health Canada advises against using bromine products with ozone, UV or ionizing devices in pools and spas. If you are unsure what your tub contains, photograph the equipment labels and bring the names of your current products when asking for water-care guidance at Legacy Spas. Confirm the correct routine for that equipment before making a switch; do not assume another spa owner's water-care routine will suit yours.
