Why has my hot tub cover become so heavy?

If an insulated foam cover has gradually become much heavier, moisture may have entered its core. Waterlogged foam is harder to lift and provides poorer insulation. Look for sagging, splits, damaged seams or a cover that no longer sits evenly on the tub. Check for surface snow, water or debris as well, so you can distinguish an external load from a change in the cover itself.

A cover lifter can make handling easier, but it cannot restore waterlogged insulation. Avoid forcing a heavy cover or dragging it by its straps. Ask whether the condition warrants replacement, especially if you can no longer open and secure it comfortably. Legacy Spas' parts and covers page explains what model details, photographs and measurements to gather for a replacement enquiry. Have the cover assessed before assuming a surface repair will solve the extra weight.
